Final berth on the line

CALROSSY Anglican School chases a Douglas Shield Final berth when it hosts Oakhill College in Tamworth today.

The Tamworth school plays its first home game in the statewide knockout competition against the Castle Hill, Sydney school but it appears it will be on a synthetic wicket at the Plain Street cricket fields along Riverside.

CAS’s Mark Galliene said the wet weather had affected the turf wickets in the city.

“Tamworth Regional Council said the turf wickets are still too wet to play on,” Gallienne said.

“So it looks like we will play Oakhill on a synthetic at Plain Street. Riverside 7, I think.”

Calrossy have had a bye and two “away wins” against Lakes Anglican Grammar (Newcastle) and The Armidale School, Gallienne reported.

“It will be our first home game,” he said.

“Oakhill are pretty handy. But we have a handy side too.”

Hamish Batley, recently selected in the side NSW City and Country Schools team to play in the NSW Schoolboy Championships in Sydney from next Monday, co-captains the Calrossy team along with Layne Berry.

He and Berry also play first grade in Tamworth for their North Tamworth and Old Boys clubs.

Oakhill vice captain, Nathan Smith, also a handy allrounder, is also a representative player.
