Tamworth man knifed during robbery

A 22-YEAR-OLD man is in Tamworth hospital with stab wounds after an assault and robbery early yesterday morning.

Police said the man was walking along Anthony Rd at 4.50am when he was approached by a group of people. They asked him for a cigarette, but he refused. He was then attacked by at least three members of the group and knocked to the ground.

They demanded his phone and he refused. The assault continued and the victim suffered four stab wounds to his right front torso, one to his back, one to his right hand and a deep laceration to his wrist. He was taken to Tamworth hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries, but police said they were deep wounds.

After investigations by Tamworth detectives, three male juveniles were arrested at various homes in Tamworth and charged with aggravated robbery and were refused bail to appear in Tamworth Children’s Court this morning.

The victim remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
