THERE was plenty of bone-jarring and dirt-biting action dished out to the huge crowd in the roughriding arena at Bendemeer on the weekend.
But in the more serene event of ladies’ breakaway, it took Willow Tree’s Caitlin Harris a lightning 2.5sec to rope her steer and come away with the winner’s crown.
Though Harris had some pretty stiff competition.
Three runs earlier, big sister Emily clocked a speedy 3.2sec to finish the night with the bridesmaid tag.
In the saddlebronc, Attunga’s Luke Morgan continued the form that earned him the 2011 ABCRA (Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft & Rodeo Association) title to ride Miss Southern to 81 points and grab the prestigious Peter Jenner Memorial Saddlebronc trophy.
Organisers were once again on a high, with the success of the village’s annual fundraiser.
Two days of campdraft saw 1100 head of cattle put through their paces in the outside arena, while plenty of edge-of-the-seat action kept the crowd cheering in the rodeo events, including the popular bullride, saddlebronc and bareback while the electronic timing was sent into overdrive in the barrel, breakaway roping, steerwrestling and rope and tie.
