Nominations opened last week for the awards, which will be presented during Seniors Week celebrations in Tamworth, Barraba, Nundle and Manilla.
Tamworth mayor Col Murray said the council was seeking nominations of individuals and groups before Friday, March 1.
"We all know someone who gives their time to help seniors in our community," he said.
"Council is encouraging local residents who know an individual or group deserving recognition to nominate them for an award."
The type of activities deserving of a Tamworth Regional Council Seniors Week award include active participation on community committees, volunteering, advocacy on behalf of older people and/or major contributions to community life.
The Seniors Week group award is open to a group of any size that has had long-standing service to older people in the community or has been responsible for a major activity or project to assist older people.
All nominations must be made through the official nomination form, which is available from the Tamworth Community Centre and council's customer service centres at Barraba, Manilla, Nundle and Tamworth.
Forms can also be downloaded from the council's website.
All nominees must be residents of the Tamworth Regional Council area, be 60 or older and have carried out their work in an unpaid capacity. Each nomination must be supported by one nominator and one referee.
Posthumous nominations cannot be accepted.
Past recipients of the Seniors Week awards are ineligible to receive an award. Nominations will be considered by an independent panel comprising representatives of the Seniors Week organising committees and council staff. Information on how to lodge nominations is included on the form.
