THE Tamworth RSL Sub-branch has increased the price of its poppy coins, to try and raise more money for the branch.
“They have been sold for $10, but we decided to up the price to $15 as a fundraiser,” sub-branch secretary Jayne McCarthy said.
“We need money to keep our door open, really, to keep our sub-branch going ... just to keep the doors open to continue the service.”
She said the Sydney RSL, from where the sub-branch previously ordered its poppy coins, didn’t have any left.
Mrs McCarthy said she was unsure whether the coins could be bought from any other sub-branch in the North West.
They were a nice keepsake, she said, and the picture on the coin represented the Flanders poppy from northern France.
“It’s like a normal $2 coin, but it’s got that lovely red flower on it,” she said.
There are 40 coins left for sale.
