A 23-YEAR-OLD man will face Tamworth Local Court today charged with firearms offences and assault after a street brawl escalated yesterday.
The West Tamworth man was arrested after a search warrant was executed at a Bourne St address, following the brawl, where it is alleged police found a stolen firearm.
Just after 11am yesterday, police were called to a Bourne St address after a Triple 000 caller reported seeing a man with a firearm during a disturbance.
Five units from Oxley Local Area Command attended the area after reports a large group of people were fighting in the street armed with metal poles and wheelbraces.
A search warrant executed afterwards by detectives and general duties officers revealed a .22 rifle, which police will allege was stolen during a break-and-enter in Tamworth last year.
An amount of ammunition was also taken from the home.
The man was charged with producing and possessing a firearm, assault, threatening with a firearm and goods in custody.
Bail was refused by police and the man will face court today.
The street was closed for several hours while police interviewed witnesses and searched for weapons.
