Beginning on Saturday from midday, Tamworth’s poets in the making will be given the chance to share their work with the public at Cafe 2340.
Called “The Postcode Poets,” the meetings will be open to all poets, regardless of style, age or experience.
Cafe 2340 owners Sam and Jo Kelly have shown a willingness to support the arts by hosting art exhibitions and Saturday evenings of laid back music as an alternative to the pub-rock scene.
Organiser Peter Langston hopes 12 poets will be heard every month, with a meal or drinks voucher provided by the cafe being awarded to the audience’s favourite poet.
Mr Langston believes, while Tamworth is synonymous with Australian bush poetry, there are many other styles to be heard.
“It is not an event just for published poets,” he said.
“Everyone will be welcomed and given a chance to read.”
