Minor accidents in the wet

NEW England North West police were called out to a number of minor accidents yesterday as heavy rain impeded driving conditions around the region.

A motorbike rider suffered a fractured collarbone after his bike hit a deer on the New England Highway near Glen Innes.

The accident occurred about midday and saw the rider, a man in his 40s, taken to Glen Innes hospital in a stable condition.

Also on the New England Highway at Willow Tree, a two car collision occurred just after 1pm with a male in his mid-30s suffering stomach pain treated at the scene.

At 1.45pm police were called out to the scene of a single vehicle accident which occurred when a car rolled near Coonabarabran, a driver in his 40s escaping injury.

A 4WD rolled on the Thunderbolts Way near Walcha at about2pm yesterday with two passengers escaping injury.

The accident closed the road for around half an hour while the vehicle was recovered.

Meanwhile in Tamworth police were called to direct traffic at a main intersection after a motorist skidded in wet weather and took out a traffic light at the corner of Kable Ave and Brisbane St.

Witnesses said the ute, driven by a male P-plater, smashed into the traffic light just after 2pm.

Tamworth police said the driver of the ute reported the accident directly afterwards and no charges will be laid.
