MUCH controversy has arisen since Comrade Gillard parachuted Nova Peris into the top position on the Northern Territory ALP Senate ticket for the next election.
Of course, this does not necessarily mean that Nova would be assured of winning the seat.
If Territorians were to vote below the line and preference all the Senate candidates, they could still give Trish Crossin their first preference and Nova the second, or whatever preference they chose.
However, to do this would mean that voters would have to know how to vote properly and we know that voters are lazy, choosing to vote above the line.
The system is designed that way to befuddle and beguile the electorate.
I suggest that voters become more aware of their voting rights and don’t follow the how-to-vote card.
