Government’s secret plan to slash jobs

SECRET documents have revealed that the O’Farrell government is seeking to cut 7800 jobs from the state’s three electricity distributors, bringing planned public sector job cuts in NSW to almost 23,000.

The cutbacks would effectively slash 60 per cent of the workforce at Essential Energy, Endeavour Energy and Ausgrid.

Unions NSW is calling on the Premier to honour his commitment to job growth for NSW by ensuring Networks NSW does not push ahead with mass redundancies, forced sackings and hiring freezes.

The NSW government has already committed to sacking 15,000 public sector jobs – now they’re talking about increasing that to almost 23,000, through the wholesale decimation of jobs in the energy distributors.

Barry O’Farrell and his government seem to be vying with Campbell Newman for the job cuts gold medal.

NSW residents expect their government to be a first-rate employer, yet today we have seen yet another secret plan for mass sackings.

The last labour force data showed the unemployment rate was drifting up. It seems the O’Farrell government is determined to push it higher.
