Damaging winds around 70 km/h with peak gusts of 110 km/h are forecast for parts of the Northern Rivers and Northern Tablelands forecast districts during Sunday afternoon and evening.

Heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding are forecast for the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands and parts of Northwest Slopes and Plains and Hunter districts.

 In a warning issued before 6am today, the Bureau said very heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, is developing in the Northern Rivers and northeastern parts of the Northern Tablelands forecast districts. Locations to be affected include Byron Bay, Lismore, Grafton, Tenterfield, Kyogle, Yamba and Maclean.

 These areas are likely to see 24 hour totals in excess of 100mm by 9am Sunday.Other areas which may be affected on Sunday include Tenterfield, Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and Taree. 

People are advised to refer to www.bom.gov.au/warnings through the weekend for updates to this warning and flood warning information.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.

Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.

Keep clear of fallen power lines.

Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.

Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
