SPEED limits will be reduced in Werris Creek, on The Gap and Werris Creek roads, in the next week.
The Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) says the 100km/h limit on The Gap Rd, 2.1km west of Silo Rd, will be reduced to 60km/h, while the 60km/h speed limit on Werris Creek Rd will be reduced to 50km/h for 180m north of The Gap Rd.
Warning signs to advise motorists of the changes will be in place for at least a week after the new speed limit signs are installed.
"This is a notorious stretch of road and I applaud the decision of RMS to reduce the speed limit," member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.
"Speed is a big contributor to accidents and incidents on any road.
"These two areas of Werris Creek are roads that have long been known amongst locals and visitors as dangerous.
"Reducing the speed limit on these roads is welcomed and the change will provide a more consistent approach to the local roads and conditions.
"Whenever there is a change in speed, RMS conducts very thorough reviews of traffic data, the environment and weather conditions and seeks local knowledge in making a decision.
"This review has also included a review of traffic characteristics and crash data."
