Teenager charged after punching horse, spectators at Walcha Rodeo

A WALCHA teenager, alleged to have punched a horse has been charged with animal cruelty.

The 16-year-old is then alleged to have assaulted several spectators who witnessed the incident at the Walcha Rodeo on Saturday night.

Police were called to the showgrounds at 7pm on after reports a male was heavily intoxicated and creating a disturbance.

After arguing with security guards and being asked to leave, he allegedly jumped into an animal enclosure and punched a horse.

Police say several witnesses intervened but were also assaulted.

The 16-year-old male was arrested and charged with assault and cruelty to animals.

He will appear at Walcha Children's Court on February 26.
