THE sun’s great for their solar panel, but not so good when you’re camping in a small caravan in Tamworth’s current heatwave.
Col and Betty Greller travelled from Bundaberg to Tamworth and arrived last Monday in the midst of consecutive days in the high 30s.
The couple said they had a small 12-volt fan and would park their van in the shade to try to keep cool.
“We just shift from shade to shade,” Mr Greller said.
They said some nights they sat outside in the dark with the lights off to enjoy the cool of the evening before going to bed.
Their advice was simply to seek shade and stay hydrated.
“Sitting in the shade and having a beer is about all you can do,” Mr Greller said.
They said they loved camping, despite the heat, because of the social aspect of it.
Tamworth’s temperatures reached 42.5 degrees yesterday.
