WHILE the rest of Tamworth swelters through the current heatwave, Teys Australia, a Cargill joint venture, employees are keeping their cool.
Teys Australia HR site manager Kerry Johnson said she thought working in the freezer and chiller would currently be the most sought-after job in the city.
“It’s certainly a great way to cool off if you get the chance,” she said.
“I think it’s pretty unfortunate when they come out, though, because it’s truly a heatwave after they’ve been getting around in their ‘Michelin Man’ suits all day.”
There are 35 chiller and freezer workers over all the shifts who enjoy below minus temperatures throughout the year and 220 workers in the boning room who enjoy four degree temperatures.
“It’s probably not so nice in winter, though,” Ms Johnson said.
