TAMWORTH bounced back from a first-day loss to Manning and an early batting collapse to score a 74-run win in yesterday’s Tamworth Under 14 Cricket Carnival Final at Dick Edwards Oval.

Manning had the home side in trouble at 6-65 and then 7-81 when Cooper Barnes was dismissed by Max Elliott (1-10).
Opening bat Jack Davison (23) had been the mainstay early but the addition of Narrabri’s Kookaburra Cup captain Ryan Meppem was a major bonus for Tamworth.
Meppem was out for 49, well caught by the impressive 10-year-old Josh Essery late in the fightback.
He and paceman Will Anderson (13) had added 49 for the eighth wicket.
Unfortunately Anderson strained his left thigh running between wickets and Tamworth’s leading wicket-taker couldn’t bowl.
Jordi Gilfillan (3-20), Billy McGowan (4-23), Ben Reynolds (1-23) and Max Elliott (1-10) all excelled with the ball.
However 142 was enough.
Cooper Barnes (2-8), Tom Maloney (2-14), Sam Atwell (1-12), Tom Fitzgerald (2-0 off five overs) and Meppem (2-1) all filled the bowling hole left by Anderson.
Only opener Scott Orchid (14) and Aaron Dodd (18) reached double figures for Manning.
“It was a great bowling performance,” Tamworth manager Peter Graham said.
“After Will strained his thigh we didn’t think it was right to bowl him.
“He’d been our leading wicket-taker too but all the boys bowled extremely well.
“And Jack Davo batted well early before Ryan (Meppem) came in.
“He’s a great little cricketer.
“And Tommy Fitzgerald too. He missed out with the bat but took 2-0 off his five maiden overs.
“They’re a great bunch of kids too.
“It’s taken them a while to win.
“This is the first thing they’ve won in three years.”
While Tamworth had a good win, Nambucca Bellingen held on to beat Hastings by three runs in a thriller for third place at Riverside 2.
Nambucca Bellingen made 5-166 on the back of Jamie Bekis’s 50 retired and Austyn Nugent’s 47.
They bowled Hastings out for 163 with Cooper Nugent claiming 3-26 after Jack Steinmetz made an unbeaten 51 to put his side in a winning position.
Coffs Harbour only made 113 but that was enough to beat Lismore by 17 runs at Max Sutton oval.
Lachlan Clark topscored with 44 for Coffs against an attack spearheaded by Kaleb Auld (4-16) and Tom Carlton (3-22).
John Critten (3-20) then led the Coffs bowling along with skipper Raman Phoonie (2-14) to bowl out Lismore for 96.
Jordan Williams, who claimed a first-day hat-trick, looked like he might snatch a win with some lusty late hitting but he ran out of partners and was left stranded on 19.
West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook completed their week with an eight wicket win over Quirindi at Riverside 5.
Dean Carlin captured 5-10 as Quirindi fell for 87 and then Patrick Phillips (23), Bailey Miedler (27no) and Kyle Faber (30ret) steered the Sydneysiders to victory.
