SportsDay Live: Thursday, January 10, 2013

Welcome to SportsDay live for Thursday, January 10. It's tennis, tennis, tennis as the Australian Open looms on the sporting calendar. We will have updates throughout the day from Sydney, Hobart, Auckland and Kooyong. But just to prove that we are not one-dimensional baseliners, Herald sport will come to the net with the latest local and international news.

Today's back page of the Herald features a fierce return of serve by Bernard Tomic to Pat Rafter.

"I don't think we will be in contact until September. From there. we'll see." Tomic on his Davis Cup aspirations - or lack thereof - this year. Story by Michael Chammas.

Meanwhile back-page specialist, Rupert Guinness, got a good line from the new CEO of the ARU, Bill Pulver. Wallabies coach Robbie Deans must re-apply for his job when his contract runs out.

Cricket: Anyone have Kevin Pietersen's mobile number? Please provide to the Australian cricket team because goading the South African-cum-Englishman to send offensive tweets about his teammates may be the best path for Australia to re-gain the Ashes in 2013.

Pietersen formally returned to the England set-up by signing a full central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) overnight. His form on the recent tour of India was ominous.
