About 10am yesterday, police officers travelling on the New England Highway at Fairview, 20km south east of Quirindi, noticed about 50 members of the Commanchero riding motorcycles in formation with a number of support cars.
A speeding Ford Falcon sedan was seen to overtake the group of bikes over the crest of a hill causing the oncoming police car to swerve to avoid the vehicle.
Police allege the car was detected to be travelling at 156kmh in a 100kph zone.
Police stopped the vehicle and issued the driver, who held a current Northern Territories licence with a court attendance notice for dangerous driving, exceeding the speed limit by over 45km/hr and overtaking when unsafe.
His licence was suspended and he is due to appear in Tamworth Local Court on February 11.
