MARK Callaghan will return to Tamworth Paceway on Wednesday week chasing another final success.
The Morisset trainer/driver won the 2010 Golden guitar driving the Roy Rootes-trained Jasper Gold.
On Thursday he drove Gotta Go Lucky to a heat win in The Pub Pace (1609m), the final of which will be run on Wednesday night, January 16 as a support race for the Gold Nugget.
The following Sunday heats of the Golden Guitar will be held with the Golden Guitar Final raced Thursday night, January 24.
Mark Callaghan, who has four in work at his Morisset stable, hopes Gotta Go Lucky can repeat Thursday’s performance on Wednesday week.
She sat outside Lester Shannon and when Dean Germon hiked fourth-placed Scottish Dancer three wide to challenge down the back straight Callaghan went too.
Germon thought he was a chance but Gotta Go Lucky kicked solidly to snare a 5.25 win, her second after breaking her maiden status at Newcastle in mid-December over 2030m.
“She goes quite well,” Callaghan told The Leader after the win.
“Her last run she galloped away from the standing start (finishing fifth beaten 16.5m). Her previous run was really good so I expected her to run well today.”
He said the January 16 Final will be his aim now.
“See how she pulls up,” he said.
“I might run her at Newcastle next week or might just wait for the final.”
While he had driven Jasper Gold to the 2010 Golden Guitar win Gotta Go Lucky was his first winner as a trainer at Tamworth Paceway.
