A total of 47 people have died on Australian roads this Christmas/New Year period, with the count to end at midnight.
NSW has recorded the most deaths with a total of 12, followed by Victoria on nine, WA on eight, Queensland and SA on seven, Tasmania on three and the NT one. Only the ACT has been fatality-free.
NSW police are running Operation Safe Arrival for a longer period this year, with an extra death recorded two days before the national count started.
Last Christmas/New Year a total of 50 people died on Australian roads.
