Police are treating as suspicious a fire which gutted a house in Kenny Dr, Coledale, early yesterday morning.
“We are investigating it,” Acting Inspector Stuart Campbell of Tamworth police said.
“We are speaking with witnesses in relation to the matter.”
He said the house was being lived in but the residents weren’t home.
“The house itself had no people in it at the time,” Acting Inspector Campbell said.
The Carthage St and West Tamworth Fire and Rescue brigades attended the fire, which started at 2.30am.
Two tankers from the Carthage St brigade attended, while one was sent by the West Tamworth brigade.
The house was fully alight by the time the brigades arrived, 11 minutes after the call was made alerting them to the fire. The blaze was under control by 3.04am and fully extinguished by 3.42am.
Carthage St Fire and Rescue firefighter Gary Cork said two other houses burnt out in the same street were not recent events, one having happened about a year ago and the other 18 months ago.
