LAST Sunday’s Gunnedah long course qualifying carnival was the last chance for the region’s young swimmers to book a place at the State Age Championships in Sydney next month.

To make it to Homebush they need to have swum a qualifying time, and 199 swimmers from 19 clubs came to Gunnedah on a perfect day to be in the pool to test themselves against each other and against the clock.
There were some good individual results but no pool records broken.
In addition to the individual events, there were also some team relays and an overall point-score.
Home club Gunnedah performed particularly well in the point score.
It finished on top of the men’s, women’s and overall tally with Narrabri Stingrays running second in each category.
Tamworth City was third in the women’s and overall standings while Kootingal-Moonbi was third in the men’s.
Gunnedah received the Nan Priest Trophy for its success.
In the 10 x 50m relay the clubs involved selected two swimmers from each of five different age groups to compete.
Once again it was Gunnedah that came home first and picked up the Ian Bartlett Memorial Trophy, with Narrabri second and Tamworth City third.
State age is on January 5 and 6 at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
