The 16-year-old, who has been to New Zealand with the Sydney University Pirates, was invited by that club to play in the Tom Hoad Cup Junior Invitational Tournament in Perth.
He will play against teams from Medvescak Croatia, Kosice Slovakia, Hwa Chong Institute Singapore, City Beach, Christ- Church Grammar School, Dolphins Water Polo Club and Melville Water Polo Club.
“I fly out Christmas morning, stay in Sydney overnight and then fly to Perth on Boxing Day,” White said yesterday.
“It’s a great way to finish the year.
“A great Christmas present.”
The Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School Year 10 student flies back New Year’s Eve.
He is well accustomed to playing in representative teams, having already played in NZ with the Pirates as well as representing the NSW Blues in a national Under 14 tournament in Brisbane.
He’s also part of the NSW CHS 2s and delights in playing in goals and out in the pool.
“I’ve been selected in State sides for goalkeeping and also for out in the pool.
“I’ll play wherever I can get a spot.”
He’s also been playing water polo for almost 10 years.
“I started playing when I was seven, started in flippaball,” he said.
Training hasn’t been as intense lately though.
“I’ve only been training a couple of days a week but that will change after Xmas.”
He and his Tamworth teammates are off to the Under 18 nationals .
“They’re in Brisbane I think,” he said.
