Residents in Rose St reported hearing a noise at about 3am this morning and looking out their windows to see the front end loader smash through the front wall of the IGA supermarket.
Local sources reported the loader was stolen from a locked yard at the Namoi Cotton complex in Pilliga Rd and driven more than 2 kilometres to the supermarket.
A safe and alcohol was stolen and the supermarket was extensively damaged during the incident.
"I just thought it was someone working on a forklift," reported a resident who witnessed the incident.
"Then we found out what happened later on. It's pretty spectacular."
The loader was later found burnt out on a road near the Wee Waa lagoon.
CEO of Carlos IGA, Harry Rumpler said that the store was expected to open this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
"Don't worry about your Christmas shopping, it will be business as usual," Mr Rumpler said
Barwon Local Area Command police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact Moree Police Station.
