To balance the agricultural, environmental, social and economic needs of a growing population, we need to be more efficient and more strategic.
To meet these demands on agriculture and our natural resources, we need to challenge the way we have always done things. The status quo is not an option. Change must be informed, strategic and delivered in consultation with the people who will benefit.
Local Land Services is part of the change for NSW farmers and landowners that I am determined to deliver. This is bigger than amalgamating existing services; it is a complete re-think of how the NSW government supports our farming communities to be productive and progressive.
Local Land Services will break down the silos between government departments and re-build frontline advisory services to be more flexible, accountable and responsive to community-level control.
This reform is being delivered against a difficult financial situation for the state which means making tough budget decisions, however, Local Land Services will remove duplication, deliver significant savings and free up more money for frontline services.
Local Land Services will grow and change in-step with the local farming community.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and I invite you to take part in setting a future path for our farmers in the new year.
Katrina Hodgkinson MP, Minister for Primary Industries, Minister for Small Business
