A highway patrol officer from Tamworth pulled over a man in his 30s on the Kamilaroi Highway south of Boggabri about noon.
Police breath tested the man and the suspicions raised by the officer lead him to search the silver Toyota Camry sedan.
The Senior Constable allegedly found a bottle inside the car, allegedly containing a liquid form of amphetamine.
They allege the 200ml of liquid would have a potential street value, once processed, of around $1.4 million.
Oxley Local Area Command duty officer, Inspector Jeff Budd, said the bottle had been sent for analysis and police investigations were continuing.
