The review of the NSW Bail Act says there should be a presumption in favour of bail for all offences apart from serious sexual assault and violence.
BAIL should be made much easier to get, especially for young people, a review of the relevant law recommends.
Existing laws lean towards a presumption against granting bail for many offences. This, according to the review, has served to fill prisons and depart from basic principles of justice including the presumption of innocence.
''In recommending a presumption in favour of bail, we do not envisage that people who present a serious risk of absconding, committing serious crime, or threatening another's safety should be released,'' the report says.
This week we ask readers whether they believe the changes to the NSW Bail Act will have any real impact on community safety.
