THE TRIP to Armidale was instantly worth it for Glenreagh trainer Garry Streatfield when he picked up an early double on Saturday.
After Glenreagh Magic took out race two, the McDonald’s Armidale 5th Grade (440m), kennelmate Noir Lee led all the way in the Blue Paws 5th Grade (440m) to give the visiting trainer back-to-back wins and a 100 per cent record for the day.
Noir Lee started from box one and after jumping to the front the black dog was never in any real danger.
“It’s his first race here and I’m pretty happy with that,” Streatfield said.
“He’s been missing the jump a little bit, but he’s just starting to get the jump now.
“He’s a fairly good dog.”
What made Noir Lee’s win particularly pleasing was the prize purse it provided.
Streatfield drove more than two hours to get to Armidale where he is a semi-regular visitor, and the Blue Paws bonus of $1000 for winning the race means Noir Lee might be getting an extra bone or two this week.
“It’s his third win from six starts,” Streatfield said.
“I’m not sure what I’ll do but I might take him to Gunnedah.
“They have another Blue Paws race there, which he is eligible for.
“It’s pretty good, $1000.”
Noir Lee won by nine lengths from El Tommie (Edgar Burge) with Nobody Knows (Michael Craig) a length back in thrird.
Earlier Glenreagh Magic also did it easily from the widest box with a seven and three quarter length win over Regal Gin (Robert Bray) with Mr Mako (Robert Ryan) a neck further behind.
The other double for the day went to Jim Galloway from Spring Creek with his charges Warragai Boy and Class Of Magic, also in consecutive races.
Those two races were the heats of the Armidale to Grafton series and Galloway will have two good hopes in the final after they ran the same time, 19.03 seconds.
The main race of the day was the Barbarians Social Club Best 8 and the Bingara bullet, El Sportsmans, added yet another win for David Rose.
