Young women aged 18-25 have until March 2 to nominate for what is considered to be a vital part of the annual Tamworth Regional Super Show.
Showgirl co-ordinator Rhonda Vincent says the competition holds an important place in the running of the show, as it provides a unique opportunity for young women.
"Showgirls have always been such a big part of the rural show," Mrs Vincent said.
"It remains a very popular part of the show, and it opens up opportunities for those who enter."
The winner at the Tamworth Show held March 16 to 18 will compete at zone level, with the opportunity then to move on to the Royal Easter Show at Homebush.
The 2007 Miss Showgirl will also have the opportunity to attend the A&P Show in Gore, New Zealand, Tamworth's sister city.
The 2006 Miss Showgirl winner Kathleen Marshall attended the Gore Show earlier this month, receiving rave reviews from event organisers after she represented Tamworth in a professional manner.
Miss Marshall has encouraged others to nominate for this year's competition, especially considering this could be the final opportunity to win before the show is relocated to the new equine centre.
The Bachelor of Agriculture student says her ambition to become a cattle buyer for a large supermarket chain has taken great steps since her success at last year's show.
"One thing the showgirl competition has given me is contacts," Miss Marshall said.
"There's a lot of people offering to help me achieve my goals."
Local businesses are being urged to sponsor an entrant, with sponsors gaining tickets to the Showgirl cocktail party, as well as weekend passes.
The showgirls will be assessed by a panel of three on their public speaking skills, and are expected to have good rural and general knowledge of the Tamworth region, as well as strong ambitions and goals, confidence, presentation and personality.
The entrants will also speak at a formal function in front of family, friends and sponsors.
Women interested in becoming an ambassador for the show and Tamworth are encouraged to call the Tamworth Pastoral and Agricultural Association on 6765 9381 for more information before March 2.
