The juniors were playing a second round of match-play games to help Central North junior golf selectors name an eight-man team to contest the March 29/30 Baker Trinder Shield in Tamworth.
CNDGA junior promotions officer Greg Kellett had been hoping all 20 nominated teenagers would turn out for the practice round.
"It is disappointing the others didn't turn up," he said.
"It would have been nice to have a squad of 20 players vying for spots but 13 isn't too bad."
He said the final eight-man team would be named after the fourth practice round at the Longyard later this month.
"We're going to have a fair team," he said.
"But they'll need to be. Hunter River is going to be strong again with a couple off two (handicap).
"Western had a very young side last year with their lowest marker off 10. He's now off five.
"And North West has some good young players such as Ben Kirkby, Robert Warram and John Brown, who is in the State squad."
Yesterday there were seven match-play games.
Manilla's Neil Bonnett (9) played the Longyard's Andrew Kellett (17) and won 3 and 1. Tamworth's Darren Burger (4) beat Longyard's Amos Young (7) 3 and 2 while Tamworth's Andrew Whackett (8) lost to the Longyard's Lorne Sampson (4) 6 and 4.
Longyard's Scott Parry (10) beat fellow 10-marker Chris Key (10) 4 and 3, Longyard's Brock Sampson beat Tamworth's Daniel Owen (9) 2 up and Longyard's Jarrad Smith (11) beat Quirindi's Beau Urquhart (12) 1 up.
The Longyard's Cameron Handley (12) also played his father, and former Longyard club champion Bill Handley, in the final match and did it tough.
Kellett also asked for the help of some low markers to test his young Shield aspirants next Sunday.
"I've got a few lined up but I need at least half a dozen more," he said.
"If anyone can help and give the boys a run in match-play conditions they can give me a ring. We need the low markers to give then a good test."
