The city has gone illumination mad this year in the annual Christmas light decoration fest with lights up trees, winking across roofs and Santas stuck in chimneys.
And the best and brightest of the lot was an electrical work of art according to Country Energy's community relations manager Leonie McMillian.
"It's beautiful," Mrs McMillian said yesterday. "The owners have gone to a lot of trouble as have all of the residents who entered our annual competition."
Mrs McMillian said the judges this year were impressed with just how many lights were out there.
"It took the judges more than five-and-a-half hours over two nights just to get around and see those who entered," she said.
"And it was an absolute delight. Dibar Drive is a must see. They even have a Santa walking around. The kids just love it."
East Tamworth was the only disappointment with no entries in the entire suburb.
The winners were:
Overall: 24 Caloola St - M and B Whale ($200 electricity voucher); Best smaller display: 4 Noonga Cres - Joyce Horton ($100); Best Santa display: Goal Creek Rd - Russell Coleman ($100); Best nativity display: 32 Ford St - Urquhart family ($100); Best street: Dibar Drive (council sign); Best smaller street: Prospect Close (council sign); Best business CBD: Tamworth Arcade (trophy); Best business Bridge St: Bridge St X-ray (trophy); Reader's choice: 26 Boronia Drive - Terry Sydneyham ($100).
