Man bashed for intervening

A 40-year-old man was bashed unconscious on the footpath outside a late night Tamworth eatery during the early hours of yesterday

morning.

Police said the Tamworth man was buying a snack from a Bridge St shop with his wife and friends after a night out at about 2.15am.

A fight broke out among another group of people nearby and the victim tried to intervene.

The group allegedly turned on the man and he was kicked and punched into uncosciousness after being knocked to the ground.

The group dispersed heading towards the Hands Of Fame Park.

He was rushed to Tamworth Base Hospital by ambulance where he was treated and admitted.

The front window of a pizza outlet was damaged during the scuffle with repairs estimated at about $1600.

Police have interviewed the victim and people at the scene and have basic descriptions of a man and woman allegedly involved in the fight.
