Tamworth jeweller Chris Hodgson (of Kings Jewell-ers) has procured a magnificent Mabe pearl enhancer, valued at around $475, which will be won by a Tamworth Festival visitor.
Mr Hodgson visited the Willie Creek pearl farm, just outside of Broome and bought the pearl, bringing it back to Tamworth where it was set in nine carat gold.
“The pearl is from the outback and the setting is totally Tamworth,” Mr Hodgson said.
Tamworth City Council will conduct a visitors’ survey during the Festival and each interviewee will be given the chance to win the pearl.
At yesterday’s Carlton Festival preview at the Powerhouse Boutique Hotel, Tamworth country ambassadors Jodie and Kelly Crosby took the opportunity to make a close inspection.
The Golden Guitar winners (and 2002 finalists with Lyndsay Hammond) said they’d be happy to be seen wearing the exquisite piece of jewellery which came from the Mabe pearl farms at Broome.
“Being the Year of the Outback, it’s great that someone will take home a little piece of outback Australia from the Tamworth Country Music Festival,” Jodie Crosby said.
“The information gathered in the survey will be of benefit to several organisations within Tamworth. All it takes is a few minutes of your time and for the chance to own this, I’d help out with a survey, but I don’t they want to hear from locals – just visitors.”
Tamworth City Council staff will invite members of the public to assist with the survey. The winner will be announced at The Last Roundup, the official closing ceremony of the 2002 Carlton Tamworth Country Music Festival.
