The lower grade competition will be played in 40-over quarters. Teams will still play a two-day game but in 40-over bursts.
For instance, Old Boys will play Bective-East at Viaduct Park tomorrow. If Old Boys win the toss and bat they will bat 40 overs.
At the end of those 40 overs Bective will bat. When they finish their 40 overs, Old Boys go back in with Bective to follow in its 40 overs.
TDCA president Terry Psarakis said the format also includes provisions for teams being bowled out in 20 or 30 overs.
“If that happens the team batting second gets to bat out the rest of the overs,” Psarakis said yesterday.
“80 overs have to be bowled in the day. So if one side is bowled out for 20 overs, say, then the second side gets to bat the other 60.”
The Bective-Old Boys match is also the start of a final season for Bective veteran Doug Crowell. He is calling it quits at the end of the season after a mammoth cricket innings.
While Old Boys and Bective-East meet at Viaduct Park, City is pitted against Norths at Chauvel Park and West Leagues tackle Souths at Gipps Street 2.
West Leagues has named a side for the clash after forfeiting second and third grade matches last week.
