With the assistance of major sponsor Macquarie Generation, Warbirds Over Scone has succeeded in attracting a world-class cast of planes and pilots for the practice day on Saturday September 29 and over 250 aircraft expected for the major flying display on Sunday September 30.
Airshow fans are encouraged to purchase Gold Passes for the event, which give the holder a number of privileges including special seating, lunch, and complimentary drinks.
“Scone seems to be a favourite venue for Warbird owners, so this year we will have more Vintage aircraft here than ever before,” Aero Club President Michael Poole said.
“Local senators Sandy Mc-Donald, John Tierney and their staff have been pivotal in securing RAAF involvement and we are delighted with the response.”
The large volume of air traffic on Airshow day has led Scone Shire Council to develop the airport infrastructure ahead of time, and the organisers have also set up a temporary control tower for the day which will assist visiting pilots.
Expert commentary will be provided by Jeff Watson from “Beyond 2000” and “Getaway” programs, an aspect of the show that proved popular in 1998 and now considered indispensable in 2001.
“The country hospitality and community spirit of Warbirds Over Scone means we get a lot of assistance from people like Jeff and that is something the big city airshows like Amberley can never reproduce,” Mr Poole said.
Features of the September 30 event will include historic fighters like the Spitfire, Mustang and Zero as well as joyflights in a 1960s “Strikemaster” Jet, bombing runs, dogfights and the RAAF “Roul-ettes” aerobatic displays.
Military vehicles, defence re-cruiting and flea markets will also be set up on the airfield for Sunday.
Tickets are $5 (practice day), $10 (kids and concessions), $15 (adults) and $45 (family of two adults and three children).
