Tamworth detectives will today resume their inquiries into the attack on a 39-year-old male victim who was set upon as he walked along Dewhurst St at 4.20am on Saturday.
Police said the man was looking for a street number when confronted by two people who demanded money and threatened him with violence.
The victim told officers his assailants — a male and female, both of Aboriginal appearance — he only had loose change.
But the woman was reportedly armed with a pair of scissors and threatened the man with the weapon while her accomplice warned the victim he would “cut his throat” if he did not surrender cash.
A spokesman said the victim was then punched to the shoulder and head before being kicked to the ground by the robbers.
They stole a bumbag and $75 in cash the man was carrying and fled the scene.
Several residents then rushed to the man’s aid and called for assistance.
The victim was treated for minor injuries. He was later able to provide police with a full description of his attackers.
The first offender was described as a female, of Aboriginal appearance, 183cm (six foot) tall, solid build and with short hair. She had a flat nose, crooked front teeth and was wearing a grey jumper and dark trousers.
The second robber was male, also about 183cm tall, aged in his late 20s, of slim build with short hair that was lighter at the front. He was wearing a large-sized white jumper and jeans cut off below the knee.
A detective spokesman yesterday urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
The spokesman said there were similarities between the robbery and two incidents that took place in the Coledale area last week.
Last Tuesday night a 17-year-old restaurant delivery driver was stopped in Robert St by two men who asked for a lift. He was ordered to take the men to the Warral Rd area, where one of the offenders grabbed him in a headlock and demanded money.
The youth eventually escaped uninjured but shaken.
Three men climbed into the rear of a car driven by a 25-year-old Tamworth man when he stopped his car at the intersection of Warral Rd and Kenny Dr on Wednesday night.
The men forced their victim to drive to nearby Anthony Rd where they ran from the car.
The spokesman said police had not established a definite link between all three incidents but were not prepared to discount it at this stage.
