BARRABA came back from a 12-nil deficit to beat the Uralla Tigers on their home turf and end the Tiger winning streak.
Uralla had won its previous two games but after a great start and a 16-12 half-time lead, couldn’t kick on as the Bulldogs finished stronger for a 34-20 win at Woodville Oval.
Uralla’s hopes were high going in after two good wins. They were hoping for Chris Broadbent, Shane Swilks, Scott Jones, Greg Schaefer and Ben Jones to continue their great form.
And the Tigers started impressively after weathering some early pressure.
Schaefer set up Ben Williams for an early converted try and then Carl Press sent fullback Brad Rafferty slicing over wide out for a 12-nil lead.
Aaron Gaunt dived over to signal the Bulldog revival and then AdamHillier finished off some consistent play to score between the posts and convert for 12-all .
While Steven Vanry (Uralla) and Neville Phillips (Boggabri) were cooling their heels in the sin-bin, Brad Rafferty scored a brilliant try wide out for a 16-12 half-time lead.
Rafferty was one of the stars of the game with his running and marking under the high ball a feature.
Barraba stalwart Garry Mallise levelled the scores with the first of his two tries before Press gave the Tigers another four-point lead with a try in the corner.
The turning point came not long after when the Barraba forwards provided the platform for Fred Jobson to regather a grubber and score beside the posts and a 22-20 lead. Mallise and Jobson crossed again to seal the game in the final 10 minutes.
Ben Jones, Jeremy Marshall, Scott Jones and Brad Rafferty were the best for Uralla.
Adam Hillier, Garry Mallise and Fred Jobson led the way for the Barraba side as it maintained its second spot (equal with Dungowan).
Barraba has its biggest test of the season when it meets unbeaten Bendemeer at Barraba on Saturday. Uralla is at home to Boggabri.
