ON behalf of the members of Tamworth Legacy, I would like to convey my sincere appreciation to the many business houses and members of the general public who supported Legacy during Badge Week, which ran from August 31 to September 5.
Friday, September 4, was our annual Badge Day and in true Tamworth spirit, our locals rallied and donated generously.
The rain didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s day; in fact, I think it brightened everyone’s spirit.
Tamworth Legacy receives no direct Government funding, and all money raised in our area stays in our area.
This is our major fundraiser for the year and the money raised sustains us for 12 months.
For some of our widows, our bus trips, Christmas lunch and entertainment is their only chance to get out of the house/hostel.
I would also like to make mention of the many volunteers who put their hand up to help on the day.
This included nearly 70 students from Calrossy Anglican School, Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School, Oxley High School, Peel High School, Tamworth High School and Calrossy Anglican School William Cowper Campus.
We also had the help of Oxley and Hillvue Scouts on the Saturday morning.
To all these students and Scouts, our sincere thanks, you are
invaluable.
It is pleasing to see our younger generation, who are our future, embracing our history.
Our thanks must also go to Hannafords Coaches for ferrying the school students from school to the various selling locations and then back to school at no charge.
Thank you to the various media who helped promote Legacy Badge Day.
To our local shopping centres and McDonald’s Tamworth South, thank you for allowing us to sell Legacy badges in positions that allowed us maximum sales.
We hope that everyone will be just as generous next year.
We will be there for our widows.
Allan Orchard
President, Tamworth Legacy
