IS Senator Nick Xenophon the only person in Parliament that will seek to take on Telstra over the introduction of a $2.20 surcharge on accounts that are paid by cash?
We would hope that people and our political representatives would rise as one in support of this
senator.
Certainly pensioners are exempt for the timebeing – probably not for long, though.
What of our lower-paid workers, newly unemployed and persons on the dole? It will be an extra burden for them to bear.
Together with ever-rising power charges, it will make it harder to keep warm in our winter and cool in our very hot summers.
At least our power provider gives people the option – if you cannot pay your bill, go to the fine print on the back of your account and it will inform you to go to any welfare agent for help.
If they are out of cash, I would suppose it’s back to the future with a kerosene lamp.
