BEING astounded by the ministers’ $2 million travel expenses during the winter break, I reviewed my own travel expenses to verify that I’m providing my customers “value for money”.
I’m a professional; I consult around the world. Some even call me “world-class”.
Ten days in Washington DC: about $600/day; five days in Melbourne: about $360/day; seven days in Madrid: about $570/day: six days in Florida for about AU$732/day – airfare, lodging, everything. The first three were client-reimbursed business trips a few years ago; the last was participation in a professional seminar that was
self-funded.
Using HeraldSun-provided data and some guesses, MP Garrett’s trips equate to $3530 per person-day; MP Gillard’s to $2110 per person-day (or $2640 if the “family member” wasn’t charged to us taxpayers); Senator Conroy’s trip – the most reasonable of the bunch – comes in at $1790 per person-day.
What are these people doing with our tax dollars?
Obviously, I’m not being nearly extravagant enough with my customers’ money – especially my government customers!
