Can't soften water that doesn't exist

I READ with amusement the article by Simon Chamberlain on the Barraba water softer option (NDL, September 21).

My comment is, you can’t soften what you ain’t got.

We are now on restrictions and if the current weather pattern continues, it will only be a few weeks and we will be on level three or four.

I suggest that Tamworth Regional Council water enterprise project officer Ian Regan visits Barraba and familiarises himself with our water situation and what the Barraba community wants.

That is, a secure water supply, which we pay for through our rates, and expect.

Ian, the water from Split Rock Dam is approximately half the hardness of our local supply – softening problem solved.

A pipeline from Split Rock Dam – secure water supply solved.

It is time for TRC to revise the cost of a pipeline to a more realistic figure and proceed with work that is going to meet the Barraba community’s expectations.
