ALEX Fielding had some talented young tennis players hitting away at the West Tamworth Tennis Club’s John Parsons Tennis Complex
yesterday.
While the Australian Open entered its second day in Melbourne, the West Tamworth Tennis Club coach was entering the second day of a second tennis camp at the Belmore Park venue with around 30 children.
“It’s been a big couple of weeks,” Fielding said yesterday.
“We had around 30 kids last week and have around the same number this week.”
He said the two camps are mainly for beginners.
“We’re introducing beginners to tennis, trying to give them a hit,” he said.
“But there’s loads of talent and they play plenty of games and have a heap of fun as well.
“We’ve got a few young kids who are hitting the ball well and have a lot of talent.”
The camp concludes tomorrow but Fielding reckons it’s a “good time” to conduct the tennis camps with the Australian Open on.
He is also leaning to a “younger” winner in the men’s singles.
“I think one of the younger players might win it,” he said.
“I’ve got a lot of time for Andy Murray but it’s too tough to call in the men’s singles.”
