WEST Tamworth will be a tennis hub this
weekend.
The annual West Tamworth Junior Open will see talent from across the state on court with players coming from as far as Sydney.
“We’ve got a few kids from Sydney and there’s a bus coming from Tuggerah,” West Tamworth club professional Alex Fielding said.
They will join players from Tamworth, Gunnedah and Armidale, competing in divisions from U10s through to U18s.
“We’ve got a bit over 50 entries,” Fielding said.
That’s up on last year, and he said it was good to see the far reaching interest.
He has about 10 of his West Tamworth juniors participating and is expecting some good results from them.
Singles will be played today and doubles tomorrow.
Fielding formerly competed in the tournament and is expecting a busy weekend.
Also on hand to help out will be club star Brooke Whitten.
A few weeks ago the 17-year old collected one of her biggest wins when she won an Adelaide amateur tournament.
The tournament is one of the Australian Money Tournaments (AMTs), which are designed as a stepping stone between the Optus Junior Tour and the Australian Pro Tour.
