TAMWORTH’S Oakburn Park will come alive to the sounds of nearly 20 screaming Formula 500 racecars as Round 6 of the Tri-Steel Sheds State Drivers Pointscore and the Bill Hempstead Memorial revs up tomorrow.
The first Bill Hempstead Formula 500 Memorial will be run in conjunction with this series round and the overall pointscore winner on the night will pick up a bonus $1000.
F500 promoter Brian Cox said the event would be a celebration for Bill who tragically lost his life while practising in his Formula 500 racecar at Oakburn Park three years ago.
His widow, Dawn Hempstead, will be on hand for the presentations and, not only will the winner receive $1000 winning prizemoney, but his name will also go onto the perpetual trophy.
Drivers will be coming from as far as Maryborough, Wollongong, Goulburn and Sydney.
There will also be a certain amount of added interest in the drivers’ pointscore with local drivers Brian & Luca Cox who are currently second and sixth respectively after the first five rounds at Grafton , Gilgandra, Gunnedah, Goulburn and Lismore.
Racing at Oakburn Park will start earlier than usual at 4pm tomorrow.
