WEST Lions Rugby League Club is the latest local sporting club to be recognised for its efforts to promote healthy choices for its players and
supporters.
The club has received a Good Sports award and $250 after its efforts to give players non-alcoholic choices after games and by serving more healthy food.
Former Newcastle Knight and Good Sports director Marc Glanville and Tamworth mayor James Treloar presented the award at the West Tamworth League Club on Friday.
“We have a lot of clubs signed up for Good Sports in the Hunter and New England area and we give an award to one club in each area for their work,” Glanville said.
“West Tamworth football club is our New England
winner.
“Newcastle Permanent is a sponsor and they give the club $250.”
The club will continue to support the cause, which has seen many clubs from a number of sports around the region sign up.
The club’s next big event is the Tamworth Sevens which should see 16 teams from around the region and beyond compete on February 27.
A number of teams have already entered and the club is hoping a team from Penrith and a touring Fijian side will also join in.
