Sunday meet a goer... but we'll struggle to break even, says Tamworth secretary

TAMWORTH Jockey Club's Sunday meeting is a "definite goer".

Club secretary Mike Rowland said 65 nominations had been received for the TAB meeting and, while the club "might struggle to break even", it would race.
"We'll race for sure," Rowland said yesterday.
"The noms in a couple of races are a little bit low but we are working on that.
"We have extended noms until 11am tomorrow.
"But it is well worth our while racing.
"There's no doubt the club will struggle to pay for it but we have to keep faith with the owners and trainers and give them some prizemoney to chase.
"We're just glad to be racing. Finally out and can have a go."
He said nominations on all seven races at Sunday's return meeting have been extended until 11am today in the hope of bolstering some of the smaller fields.
"It would be super to see a few more in the ratings 74 in particular.
"And by having good fields we can give spectators a good spectacle, something they haven't had for a while."
Feature race on the card is the $10,000 Harvey World Travel Open Handicap (1000m).
It drew eight nominations yesterday.
Of them, Sutton Rarju (Luke Griffith), Satin Express (Ruth Cooper), Top Crown (Stephen Gleeson) and Upsized (Ian Symons) are all resuming.
Satin Express has not raced since finishing seventh to Armidale galloper Derivative Receipt in last August's 2300m Coffs Harbour Cup.
Glenrock Ace (Sue Bigg) has had one run back from a spell while Scotch Gem (Jan Bowen) and Subreilly (Kevin Hewitt) both ran into Todd Howlet's flying Our Liam at Newcastle last Saturday.
Scotch Gem lost his rider while Subreilly battled on well for third, beaten almost three lengths in 50.93secs.
Tee Gee enters Sunday's race match-fit and with two recent wins to his credit.
The Jeremy Sylvester-trained gelding won at Muswellbrook and then Cessnock before a last-start fifth on the Kensington track at Randwick.
Tee Gee, winner of five from 27 starts, is also nominated for the Rating 74 Handicap (1200m), a race including recent Wallabadah Cup winner Maharani Marscay (Tod Howlett) and Scone winner Time Shift (Luke Griffith).
