Frahm bounces back from ban

04 Oct, 2002 09:07 PM
VETERAN jockey Danny Frahm returned to racing from a four-meeting suspension with a vengeance to grab victory in the first race at Tamworth yesterday.

Frahm guided the Peter Shanahan-trained Maxica to a nose win over Chevvy (Darren Jones) and a further head over Strategic Gold (Cody Morgan) in the JT Fossey Maiden Plate (1600m).

"He got right back like he normally races, but then the horse in front of me (Chin Emperor with Garry Baker aboard) nearly fell," Frahm said.

"I had to ease off and stand up and check him before he got going again.

"It was a good win because of that. He picked up and got going, and by the turn was wide but not far off the

leaders.

"He just kept going from there to win nicely.

"He's a horse that's got to get wound up in his races, so when the other horse nearly fell and he had to be checked, I thought that may have brought him undone."

Frahm also rode the four-year-old two starts back at Gunnedah for seventh to Sue Grills's Britain.

"Then he went to Quirindi and finished a good third. Today's win was a good one for Peter (owner/trainer Peter Shanahan and his family).

"His old horse Spelthorn bled in his last start here when we finished second to Mr. Mohican. So today's win with this bloke was a good tonic for Pete."
