EMM Harvey became the first horse into Sunday night’s $25,000 Pryde’s EasiFeed Golden Guitar Final with a strong 7.75m win in yesterday’s first of five Golden Guitar heats at Tamworth Paceway.
The Dayl March-trained -and-driven stallion led all the way for a 10th career win.
Sawyer’s Gully mare Love Like Rockets (Adam Ruggari) beat Moonbi gelding Feel No Pain (Dean Chapple) for a 2.5m second and a spot in Sunday’s final.
March trains at Warwick and has made a winning habit of trips to Tamworth in recent years.
“I came down here hoping to make the final with him,” March said.
“He was disappointing in the Gold Nugget last week but I know what went wrong. I had him too short.
“And he gave me the impression today he’ll back up Sunday.
“I expect him to be better and fitter on Sunday.
“I’ve got four in Friday and now four in Sunday.”
Emm Harvey rated 2:00.5 in his heat while East Maitland gelding Premium Red cruised to an 8.5 win in the second heat with a 2:01.8 mile rate.
Trainer-driver Mathew Jackson bought the son of Red River Hanover “five starts back”.
“He’s won four for us now. He’s done a good job,” Jackson said.
“He’s not a bad little horse although he can be a bit silly.
“He won that just how I hoped and it leaves him in good stead for Sunday.”
Ellalong trainer/driver Michael Formosa won last year’s Golden Guitar with Xavier and believes Auchenflower Rose, winner of yesterday’s fourth Golden Guitar heat, is just as talented.
Formosa had driven his other Golden Guitar Finalist, Staminator, last year, with Cameron Davies driving and winning on the stablemate.
“She’s better at this stage,” Formosa said of Auchenflower Rose in comparison to Xavier.
“I didn’t expect him (Xavier) to do what he did last year but if she can improve like he did she’ll be very hard to beat.
Formosa sold Xavier after winning last year’s Golden Guitar.
“And he’s kept his form since,” he said.
“But she went good today.
“She’s going to draw awkwardly but she’s probably one of the few horses in the final who can come from behind and win.”
