URALLA Golf Club teed off with a big weekend, sending around 80 players in Saturday’s Mixed Open and another 130 in yesterday’s Men’s Open Fourball.
The two events were replays of washed out 2011 Mixed Open and Open Fourball events.
Plus 11 was a popular score too, the winning number in both handicap events on Saturday and
yesterday.
The local combination of Will Mellor and Jody Garrahy used their local knowledge to great advantage to win Saturday’s Mixed Open on a
countback.
The Uralla pair carded +11 to beat Armidale’s Phil Robertson and Uralla’s Cathy Grills, who also had +11.
Armidale’s Craig Hyde and Amanda Carr won the scratch event on Saturday with a square round by a shot from Uralla’s David Carlon and Penny Glock.
Club captain Neil Haynes was delighted with the roll-up both days.
He said players from Tamworth, Walcha, Armidale and Uralla took part on Saturday for a great day.
Yesterday’s Men’s Open Fourball was even better, with a big field of 128, Haynes said.
And Haynes had a great reward for all his hard work at the club.
He and Peter Sims carded +11 to win the Open Fourball by a shot from the Armidale pair of Wayne Cundy and Tony Williams.
Uralla’s Trevor Murray and Armidale’s Daniel Cox combined to win the scratch event with +1 from Tim Murray and Anthony Connors (square).
Haynes said yesterday’s big roll-up completed a great weekend for the club.
“Our next big events will be in November when we run the Mixed Open and Open Fourball again,” Haynes said last night.
