Huge two-day carnival at Moree

02 Oct, 2008 08:38 AM
MOREE Greyhound Racing Club this week stages its huge October long weekend two-day carnival – and club president Terry Wilson believes it could be the strongest line-up of dogs seen at the Moree course in more than a decade.

“There are some very classy dogs engaged, many of them TAB-class runners,” Wilson said.

“Both days of the carnival – Saturday and Monday – will have quality fields and our prize money is very good for a country track.”

Monday’s meeting features finals of the 302m NSW GBOTA Outback Fly and 421m Moree Services Club Outback Sprint. Each race offers $1300 prize money, while the $1300 Joe Sabine and Max Hobday Memorial Best 8 (551m) is expected to draw nominations from across NSW and Queensland.

Supporting races, each offering $500 to the winner, include the 421m New England Credit Union Best 8 and 421m Purewater Filtration 5th Grade.

Capalaba trainer John Falvey is a major stakeholder in the Outback Fly with two qualifiers, Danny Phantom and Go India.

Danny Phantom, an impressive heat winner from box eight last Saturday in 17.06, is expected to vie for favouritism on Monday – if he draws well.

“He’s a good dog but still learning, and because he likes to find the rail he really needs an inside draw,” Falvey said.

Likely Outback Sprint favourite Pure Shot, a heat winner last weekend in 23.76, needs the complete opposite according to Casino trainer Rob Andrews.

“He’s a brilliant beginner and won from box four in his heat, but box eight would be perfect for him,” Andrews said.

Saturday’s meeting features the 551m Brad Clark Electrical McDermott Tester, 421m Barwon Securities 4th Grade, 302m Legg’s South Moree Butchery Best 8, 302m Doug Dufty Maiden and 421m Ausure 5th Grade Country Cup.

“This is our biggest weekend of racing all year, and we expect keen competition and big crowds for both meetings,” Wilson said.
